What difference a year makes

It was time to make a change. I’m not letting another birthday go by feeling the way I do… That was my promise I made to myself November 2015 and I meant it. I had just started to change some of my eating habits, but I needed more. My friend Sharon was a part of a gym, but not just any treadmill having place. It was a kickboxing studio and I figured maybe she could help me out with my goals. My fitness background was cheerleading, gymnastics and dance. I was always very active and loved every team I was ever a part of. I had amazing coaches and teachers over the years and that’s what I felt I needed.

Last November had made a little over 5 years that I had not been a part of anything and I couldn’t continue my life in the wrong direction. Sharon was willing to help me and invited me to try the intro class at Fitness Kickboxing…and there I met Amir. I started off trying to make sure I was able to attend classes when Sharon would be there and checking in with her throughout the day of what I was eating. My 1st night I knew I wanted to sign up because I was determined to stick to my promise. I would try to make at least 3 days out of the week and keep pushing forward.

It is now December 2016, 13 months later and I’m healthier, happier and still dedicated to dancing on the bag each and every day. I am a part of the 6am class crew and they are the best motivation around. I have lost 30 pounds so far and inches galore! I have had endless amounts of meal plans made for me to follow and stepped my game up to be at classes at least 6 days out of the week. There were days in the beginning that I complained and became frustrated. I wanted the results to come quick as everyone does. It was when I stopped trying to pay attention to every pound and took every inch lost and compliment gained; I noticed I was making such a transformation already.

On top of everything else, I gained a great coach and friend in life. Amir has always encouraged me, motivated me and somehow dealt with the crazy person I can be with a smile every day. He never stopped pushing me to do my best and it shows. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help me become even better. I’ve now completed a half marathon that was in October and that was an awesome goal to work towards.. The endurance I have now feels amazing and I can’t wait to crush more goals that I keep on making for myself. Lastly, the kickboxing family I have made really set the tone for me. We all are committed and everyone is always friendly to those that come on board. We build one another up and it is one of the best rewards while being on this journey along with the satisfaction I have worked hard for.

My world of having great coaches to push me to be my best, has continued...

I do a lot of writing, and a lot of reviewing… I find that the most difficult things to write about are those that concern me. Of course, I am human, I am self-conscious, I am not perfect. I do however feel it necessary to share my most recent journey.

A while back I reviewed Fitness Kickboxing NY. I attended 3 classes and wrote about my experience. That was supposed to be it. After the classes were over I found myself upset that I would no longer be going to Fitness Kickboxing. But, I didn’t have the time, I felt guilty being away from the kids… I had all of the usual excuses…. Little did I know that I would enjoy the class so much that I would keep going. At first 2 times a week, and since then it has steadily increased. I am currently attending 5 days a week and missing it when I am not going on weekends.  I love it. I love the challenge, I love the camaraderie, I love the next day soreness, and of course I love the results. In 3 months I have lost 10 lbs (that was before I started behaving myself with my food), and have made VISABLE progress in problem areas. I have had TONS of comments. Friends and family have noticed so often that several of them have started coming with me. My clothing is fitting better, some not so much as I get too small and have to replace it ;0) As a former athlete, I had basically given in and decided that my new role was as a mom, that I had a “new” body that was softer and rounder. I knew I could lose weight, but being limited as to what I can do as a result of my three knee surgeries, I didn’t think that I would ever return to my former shape. I was very wrong, I needed to find the right exercise. I am strong again. I stand up straighter, I have more confidence. I have been so happy with my results that I have upped the ante. As a part of my training Amir is now sending me meal plans to follow. These meal plans (lessons on healthy eating that I now use for the whole family) paired with my training will really kick my results into high gear. I am so looking forward to that. Classes are hard.

I sweat (and love every minute). I am usually sore the following day, but I can now hold a plank for 45 seconds+. My muffin top is disappearing, and I am no longer ashamed to swim with my kids. There is also a room full of classmates who push you to make it through, and cheer you on.  Amir listens to his students. When we have a problem area that we would like to work on, he finds a way to build it into that day’s class, or the following day’s class. In fact, today Ashley and I stayed afterwards and completed a portion of a squat challenge together.  I attend the 6 am class. It’s the perfect way to start my day. I end up invigorated and ready to face the world. At the risk of sounding cliché I have to add that the energy built from exercising then carries me through the day. It gives me the necessary release to be happier with everything I do. RNYD is so pleased with my happiness that when I feel like I can’t attend or I have no time, he encourages me to go and happily takes the reigns with the kids. I no longer feel guilty, I now feel as though I am a good role model for my children, it’s important to take care of me too. They are learning through my actions that it’s important to be happy, it’s important to be healthy, it’s important to be active. Here's the really hard part.... my results... Here they are (remember I am still working)... while you look, take the time to notice not only how my body is becoming toned, tighter and smaller, but also my face.  In April I am exhausted, and red in the face, looking like I am going to drop dead.  NOW... sweaty, working hard, but smiling, and enjoying every moment.

Obviously I know that all things don’t work for everyone, for example, I get ridiculously bored riding the bike for long periods of time. I thrive on the dynamic nature of kickboxing. If you are intruigued and would like to give it a try, contact Amir at Fitness Kickboxing and give it a try, 3 trial classes is a mere $20, and it’s a fantastic investment in the most important asset you have, yourself.

My name is Sharon and I started Fitness Kickboxing with Amir approximately 3 years ago. Prior to committing myself to kickboxing I would go to the gym and just simply walk on the treadmill and do a couple machines and that would constitute as “working out” for me. My boyfriend Jay and I decided we wanted a change in our workout routine we were not seeing results and thought we might need that extra push. We met Amir and he told us to come for the 3 class intro, we decided we could come for the 3 classes and if we did not like it we didn’t have to sign up. After the first class we were hooked. Amir teaches with such energy and enthusiasm and really helps you push your body and mind to the next level.  My original goal when I started kickboxing was to lose weight and I did. We both committed ourselves to coming to kickboxing at least 4 times a week and with proper eating habits we watched the pounds fall off.

Fitness kickboxing was my gate way to the Spartan Race. Amir encouraged us to sign up for a race and run with him as a team. In June of 2014 we completed our first Spartan Race and we fell in love with it. Upon completing my first Spartan Race and seeing how the obstacles required strength I decided that I wanted to transform my body. My goal went from losing weight and being thin to being strong powerful women. My journey did not stop after my first race; I had the pleasure of running with Amir for 3 more races in 2014 completing our first trifecta. During 2014 my love for Obstacle Course racing and the Spartan Race only grew fonder as we pushed ourselves to achieve more. In 2015 we were on a mission. We decided we were going to do a double trifecta (sprint, super, beast) which turned into a triple trifecta which turned into a quadruple trifecta (that is equivalent to 12 races). We are almost done with our quadruple trifecta. This year has been an amazing season and I could not have done it without Amir. He truly is an amazing mentor, coach, teacher and friend. He constantly pushes me past my limits and out my comfort zone. He has shown me that hard work really does pay off and you can do anything that you set your mind too. AROO!

I’ve loss 44 lbs and have 10 lbs to go to reach MY goal weight.

I’m soon to be 58 yrs old Grandmother on the 21st of March. I’ve been overweight for almost 30 yrs. I gained almost 50 lbs after having my children, and continued to gain weight. I tired different exercise classes and weight loss programs. I’ve lost the weight and gained it back and then some. I have Osteoarthritis in both my knees, and high blood pressure.

So my story goes like this, one day while strolling back home from the street fair with my sister, she happened to see the sign Amir had up for Fitness Kickboxing, my sister said, you should try this, it’s right across the street from where you live (how convenient is that). I think this was a sign for me to get busy.

So I stopped by one night with my niece, Amir saw us standing outside watching and invited us in. The people working out were so nice and told us how good he was. Amir took time after his last class for the day to show us some moves and even let us kick and punch the bag. I Loved it. I came back the next day to start my journey from being an overweight Grandma to looking and feeling as good as I am feeling now. It’s been a VERY long time, since I felt this good about myself. My husband even does fitness kickboxing now, which I also love. My children have never seen me in the shape I’m in today.

When I started this class I weighted 195 lbs, With the 4 week challenges Amir does I learned about the foods that was poisoning my body with. I’m still learning but have a better grasp on my nutritional intake. I’ve loss 44 lbs and have 10 lbs to go to reach MY goal weight.

“Amir, I can’t thank you and Fitness Kickboxing enough. I don’t believe I would have ever achieved the weight loss and improved health if it wasn’t for you. YOU ARE THE BEST TRAINER……EVER”

I highly recommend this class to everyone that asks me what I’m doing to lose the weight, my response is always the same, I just say “Fitness Kickboxing by Amir.”

Amir is caring and amazing. He can transform you physically and mentally.

I thank and love Amir and Fitness Kickboxing.

"I went from being a couch potato to someone driven to work out 6 days a week because I found an exercise that is challenging and fun

I went from being a couch potato to someone driven to work out 6 days a week because I found an exercise that is challenging and fun; kickboxing. With a great array of daily classes to choose from at Fitness Kickboxing, I found a class that I can fit into my schedule every day. Amir cares about all of his students and wants to see everyone do well so he pushes hard. There is no doubt that sometimes I curse him because I think he’s pushing too hard and I can’t do it, but I always seem to get it done. He knows what you are capable of when you have the right mental attitude.

I also started personal training with Amir twice a week and together we set a goal to run my first 5K in three months. Not only did Amir run with me to train, he ran the race with me as well and encouraged me to do better, go faster, try harder every step of the way. Not only did I finish the race, I’ve lost 45 lbs and counting.

I highly recommend Amir and Fitness Kickboxing!

I started Kickboxing in October 2014, not only have a lost 20lbs but I gained back confidence and my sense of self. As a stay at home Mom, it is always difficult to find time for yourself. I was gaining weight rapidly and was feeling sorry for myself. Then one day a switch flipped and I knew I had to start focusing on me.  In order for my kids to be happy and healthy, I needed to be happy and healthy. I am not a gym person! I hate going to the gym, and never saw results. I used to kickbox back in my twenties, and loved it, so I figured that was a good place to start. After a quick internet search, I found Amir at Fitness kickboxing.

The vibe in the gym is great! Everyone is working towards similar goals, and encouraging each other along the way. Amir takes the time to get to know his students and helps them set attainable goals, while constantly pushing you to be the best you can be. Amir has pushed me in the gym as well as at home. He has helped me curb my negative eating habits, and taught me how to make better food choices. Amir is an excellent coach, teacher and friend.

I started Fitness Kickboxing as a way to get back into shape. In the course of a year I went from going to class twice a week to four (or five or six) times a week with weekend training sessions for OCR. Everyone knows I love my Friday double! It just started with wanting to loose a few pounds and get a bit slimmer and ended up me really pushing myself and seeing how strong I can be. I have always been athletic, so when Amir was getting the group together for the Spartan Sprint at Tuxedo I immediately was in! I knew from the start I was going to love it, but I didn't know how much of a life changer it would be!

Spartan training has really gotten me to the next level in my fitness. I need to focus and have goals with my fitness for each race. There are obstacles that I started this season out with not knowing if I could do them, to completing them in the races. The feeling of accomplishment that I get from each training session and each race is not like any I've felt before.

The strongest pull into the Spartan world is really the camaraderie that we feel as a team. I have always been on a team sport, and it is something that I miss in my post-grad life. Joining this team has made my weekends either training, or traveling to races be so much fun! It has been amazing to progress with these Spartans over the year, and most recently, accomplish The Killington Beast together.

"Since Starting in September I lost 15lbs and 21 inches over my whole body. I was more energetic and definitely more toned and dare I say it, more sexy.

It all began in September 2011. I had packed on too much weight over the last 4 years and it was finally starting to affect me physically and emotionally. I knew I had to do something about it. My friend Carrie posted Fitness Kickboxing on Facebook and it peeked my interest. I called her and she told me that I should speak to Amir and get some information on the classes and schedule. So I did.

Amir was so encouraging on the phone and invited me in for the 3 class intro for $20. Amir demoed the punching and kicking moves in detail and motivated me as I tried them myself. It was hard, I had no stamina, I was quickly out of breath and red as a tomato, but Amir reminded me to go at my own pace and overtime I would increase my performance. Once I got into the groove I knew that this was the kind of workout I wanted to do. So I got through the 3 classes and decided to join Fitness Kickboxing.

In January, Amir led a 4 week Challenge. I agreed to do it and it paid off. I attended kickboxing class 4 times a week and followed a meal guide that Amir put together. I lost 6lbs in January alone and since September 15lbs on top of that and 21 inches over my whole body. I was more energetic and definitely more toned and dare I say it, more sexy. I can 100% without a doubt say that kickboxing has improved my quality of life drastically. I love how I look dresses and naked! Sure I have more weight to lose but I can happily say I will succeed because of Amir's dedication, encouragement and coaching and my desire to be fit for life.  I love Amir! I love Fitness Kickboxing! I love myself! Thank you a million times Amir for being such a wonderful instructor. I could not have done it without you!"

"I get an amazing workout and always feel great after!

"My weight has always been an issue for me, even as a child. I have tried everything, from going to the gym to the new fad diets. I would lose weight but always gain it back, plus more.

When I started Kickboxing, Something just clicked! I never feel like I am working out. Never watching the clock to see how much longer is left in class. I get an amazing workout and always feel great after! Even after having my second child, despite gaining 40lbs, I very easily lost it by jumping right back into kickboxing!"
